Tus padres son de Argentina, ¿alguna vez visitaste el país?
Sí, he estado en Argentina 5 veces, 65, 79, 87, 2008 y 2010. He estado principalmente en Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata y Miramar, pero mi último viaje fue para un espectáculo llamado «Passport» donde visité una estancia para cabalgar y cocinar con gauchos.
¿Cómo fueron tus comienzos en Hollywood?
Llegué a Hollywood en enero de 94 ‘y tenía un «pájaro en mano» con «Rocko’s Modern Life» siendo Rocko y muchas voces en la serie. En 1995 me convertí en participante regular del Show de Stephanie Miller en UPN. ¡Fue gran comienzo!
¿Cómo es trabajar para Seth McFarlane en Family Guy y American Dad, dado que él también es actor de doblaje?
Fue genial estar allí con Seth al comienzo de todo. El «Padre de Familia» original que lo vio explotar. Después de que el Sr. Weed fue asesinado al final de la primera temporada. Pasó un tiempo antes de que volviera al programa. Ahora tengo un buen papel de invitado para American Dad que llegará en 2021. ¿Cómo fue obtener el papel en Inside Out, una película tan importante?
Conseguir esos papeles en Inside Out fue genial, no solo porque el nombre de mi hija mayor es Rylee (ortografía diferente) sino porque ya me había convertido en parte de la familia Lasseter / Pixar como el primer error en A Bug’s Life, y El Chupacabra en «Aviones». ¿Te molesta que en algunos trabajos solo te llamen para realizar sólo acentos latinos?
Me encanta el hecho de que puedo ser llamado a hacer acentos latinos porque es con lo que crecí. También me enorgullezco de ser un latino que puede hacer muchos dialectos diferentes como con Rocko. y el Jefe Duggard – el vikingo escocés en «Dragons Rescue Riders» y como Anton y Santelmo en la próxima serie filipina llamada «Trese»
¿Cómo ve la inclusión en la industria? ¿Hay lugar para actores, actrices e incluso directores latinos?
Sí, creo que se está reconociendo un gran talento latino. Soy muy afortunado de haber trabajado con Jorge Gutiérrez y Sandra Equihua desde sus inicios. SON BRILLANTES. «El Tigre», «The Book of Life» y los próximos «Maya and the 3». ¡Son pioneros y están llegando con fuerza! Soy un productor y guionista de Latino para «Witness Infection», una película coescrita por la amiga boliviana / irlandesa, Jill Michele Melean. También ayudé a financiar la película. nos enorgullecemos de escribir historias que son solo acerca de los latinos, ya que los latinos están preparados para escribir sobre cualquier cosa que les afecte. Your parents are from Argentina, did you ever visit the country?
Yes, I have been to Argentina 5 times, 65, 79, 87, 2008, and 2010. I have been mainly to Buenos Aires, Mar Del Plat and Miramar but my last trip was for a show called “Pasport” where i visited and an estancia to rid and cook with gauchos.
How were your beginnings in Hollywood?
I came to Hollywood January 94’ and I had a bird in hand with “Rocko’s Modern Life” being Rocko and many voices on the series. In 1995’ I became a series regular on camera on The Stephanie Miller Show on UPN – I had a great start!
What is it like to work for Seth McFarlane on Family Guy and American Dad, given that he is also a voice actor?
Pretty cool to be there with Seth at the beginning of everything. The original Family Guy watching him explode. After Mr. Weed was killed off at the end of season one. It was a while before I returned to either show. Now I booked a pretty nice guest role for American Dad and it will come in 2021. Jackie and Catherine are the casting director over there and they have been bringing me in quite often. You knew it was just a matter of time before Seth took off.
What was it like to play Bane in the Batman movie and animated series? Was Tom Hardy’s performance an inspiration?
Playing Bane was an honored bestowed on me my the incomparable Andrea Romano. I had no historical knowledge of the character as I am not a a big comic book guy. Tom Hardy is AMAZING in everything but I really was more true to the Latino roots of Bane and Andrea helped me find the voice.
What was it like to get the role in Inside Out, such an important movie?
Getting those roles in Inside Out was great, not only because my oldest daughter’s name is Rylee (different spelling) but because I had already become part of the Lassiter/Pixar family as the first bug in A Bug’s Life, El Chupacabra in “Planes”. It’s just great to be part of something so creative
Does it bother you that in some jobs you are called only to perform Latin accents?
I am loving the fact that I can be called to do Latino accents because it is what I grew up with. I also pride myself on being a Latino who can do many different dialects like with Rocko. and Chief Duggard – the Scottish Viking in “Dragons Rescue Riders” and as Anton and Santelmo in the upcoming Filipino Graphic Novel series take off called “Trese”
How do you see inclusion in the Industry? Is there a place for Latino actors, actresses and even directors?
Yes I believe more great Latino talent is being recognized _ I am so fortunate to have worked with Jorge Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua since pretty much their beginning. They ARE BRILLIANT – El Tigre, Book Of Life and the upcoming Maya And The 3. They are a force and trailblazers and they are coming hard! I am a Latino producer and screenwriter for “Witness Infection”- a movie co-written by by Bolivian/Irish friend – Jill Michele Melean – I helped to finance the film as well. we pride ourselves to write stories that are not just about Latinos, rather that Latinos are poised to write about anything that strikes them. In this case it’s a comedy horror thriller about Italian Mob Families and poisoned sausage fused zombies.
We imagine that your two daughters really enjoy your work in animated series, do they manage to recognize your voice?
Rylee and Austen are “secretly” proud of dad and are following – without much prodding in my footsteps into the VO world. They are both fantastic about pointing out my voices in older series – they just flipped yesterday – that I was the Brazilian Pilot in Inside Out and Fear In Dad’s Head – they pointed me out in older episodes of teen Titans Go and Chowder when I had long since forgotten about doing those roles!
